How to Fix Chrome Auto-Opening PDF & Files

Stop Google Chrome from automatically previewing PDFs, images, or media files in browser tabs instead of downloading to disk.

1. Change Chrome PDF Download Settings

Navigate to chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments in Chrome address bar and select "Download PDFs" instead of "Open PDFs in Chrome".

2. Clear "Always Open Files of This Type"

Go to chrome://settings/downloads and click Clear next to "Open certain file types automatically after downloading".
